This week I had the privilege to participate in the MINDS/Onesight/EVF initiative as a volunteer photographer, an event held in Singapore with the objective of providing free eye exams and glasses to patients with special needs.
The Movement of the Intelectual Disabled of Singapore (MINDS) is one of the oldest and well established non-governmental organisations in the country that focus essentially on the social and welfare needs of people with intellectual disability.
With the help of Onesight and Essilor Vision Foundation (EVF) staff and volunteer team, and in the friendliest and warmest environment, dozens of patients were able to see they quality of live improved by going through a well organised sequence of clinical assessments and eyesight prescriptions.
You can check more about the work of these two organisations below:
As for me, this event resulted as a strong reminder that even in developed countries with high standards of living and great economical resources such as Singapore, there are people in the margin that need that extra care and attention.
